Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation

Physiotherapy is a non-invasive treatment to address a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. Our physiotherapists aim is to restore normal, pain-free movement without the use of medication or surgery. They utilise manual techniques to address joint and soft tissue restrictions and employ strengthening exercises to restore the physical balance between body parts. These therapies are supplemented with rehabilitation exercises and stretches to achieve a pain-free return to activity.

Whenever we are in pain, we want to be seen and get well quickly.  At the Specialist Medical Clinic we offer a comprehensive physiotherapy service where patients can normally be seen every day of the week. Speedy access to our team of highly qualified specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapists, who each have a wealth of experience in the treatment of patients with musculoskeletal problems, ensures you are seen quickly and can get on the road to recovery fast.

What Can Physiotherapy Treat?

Our specialist physiotherapists treat pain and discomfort arising from the locomotor system (bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves).

Conditions such as lower back pain, thoracic and neck pain, sports injuries, ligamentous and tendon strains and sprains, nerve injuries, and postural dysfunction aggravated by the working environment or sporting activities are all part of the physiotherapy repertoire. Unlike sports therapists and chiropractors, physiotherapists also trained to address musculoskeletal dysfunction following major skeletal and muscular injuries such as dislocations and fractures, as well as provide post-surgical rehabilitation.

The Treatment Process

Your initial consultation will include a detailed discussion of your problem, followed by a comprehensive physical examination, and if necessary treatment to begin to alleviate and treat your symptoms.

Patients will receive a full explanation of their diagnosis/condition and an appropriate treatment plan for the proposed  course of therapy during subsequent sessions.  In many cases a home-care programme may also be included.

We have three physiotherapists: Sarah Plunkett, David Peromingo and Nicole Norton.  All three of our specialists trained in the UK and are registered with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. They have  several years’ experience and hold post-graduate qualifications in their specialist areas, which include Manual Therapy and Manipulation, and Sports Physiotherapy.  Physiotherapists work as independent healthcare practitioners and a GP or Consultant referral is not always necessary.
